Caroline Kearney Memorial Triathlon is my last Olympic Race of the season (Sprinting it in Budapest). I arrived in Lilliput at 8am to see a few Trilogy members had got there ahead of me. The weather before the race was overcast, not too windy and the lake calm - all in all the conditions looked good. We had 16 club members competing and as they continued to arrive, Denise Murphy was using the time to carefully put her brand new Tri Bike through the paces (nice bike! - pictured below).

After the briefing and counted into the water. The Army set us off at 10am with a Loud Gun Salute which definitely made one dive into the water and got me off to a good clean start By the time I got to the first buoy the swim had spread out so no problems getting around. On exiting the water I could see Karl and Willy in front of me so I was going well.
Transition went well (no problems with getting helmet tied as in the Beast) and off on the Bike we went. This is the section where the rest of the Trilogy gang start catching me, but I was going to make them work for it today. Simon was first at approx. 10k with a word of encouragement as I was pushing up a hill, next came Dave Osborne at 23k and then David Murphy. Where was Murt!?! I really must be flying it!
A bit of a bottle neck going into T2 but some nifty manoeuvring avoided a collision. I racked the bike back in transition and headed off on the run where one can see what is going on up front.

First spotting was Niall, Karl, Willy, Simon and speedy Dave chasing them hard. I was keeping David in my sights in front of me.
Next sighting showed a change in the leaders with Karl, Niall, Willy, and Dave closing in - will he get them - all and Simon still going well. I could see Alan Cussen making ground on me and at the approx. 6k went past me like a man on a mission. Murt & Noel were keeping each other company, Eimear, Brian & Mike going well as were Dee, Denise, Susan and Dermot (who had done a Sprint Distance the day before with the army).
At 8km I met the Birthday Boy, walking - no it wasn't old age got the better of him but a foot injury. I was hoping he could run in with me but alas I had to go it alone and with a sprint to the finish I managed a PB.
After a chat I found out that Dave had picked the boys off one by one. Then it was back into the water to sooth those sore legs, there was no takers for water aerobics but plenty for the barbeque.
Elaine, Sorcha, Madeleine and Jonathan were at the scene with their cameras so I'm sure there will be a few photos to follow. It was also good to see a few family supports out and cheering us on. WELL DONE EVERYONE.
